This is not a political metaphor. A controversial law, set to take effect in April, will require company health-care operators to monitor employee waistlines through routine medical exams. Workers who demonstrates a high risk for diabestes and heart disease must seek further treatment. This is indeed a cool idea and an efficient role model.
Why i never heard of this practice in Malaysia? Hurmm. and Why are we often out of pace on the wellness awareness?? *shakin my head**
This is a brilliant 1st step--all in an effort to reduce ballooning costs for preventable "lifestyle ailments" and "metabo" (is a short form of Metabolic syndrome: Combination of high blood pressure, waistline fat and high cholesterol), which afflicts 9 million Japanese!!!
Wow. I bet Malaysia is facing the same dilemma 'n almost reaching the same large number...hurmm, is just that no one is taking actions!! Neither the gov or the privates..my dear..take serious concerns on this!
The new law is a good change for a corporate culture accustomed to people who work long workdays and afterhours, drinking with clients. That's why companies are starting to implement "anti-metabo" cafeteria menus and computer systems for workers so that everyone can track their health.
Mitshubishi Electric is creating a "Walking Rally" for employees to compete for prizes every month.
Toyota has invested $40 million in an educational center to promote lifestyle disease awareness.
Well Well Well........
Looks like the sake crew may have to start ordering wheatgrass shots instead..=)
